My Story,
My name is John Brilhante, the inventor of the Package Pro. As a first-generation American whose parents emigrated from Portugal to Newark, New Jersey, my family’s work ethic far exceeded our fortune. Some of my earliest memories watching my father and brother fix just about anything amazed me, sparking an ingenuity within me. Growing up in an immigrant neighborhood also instilled a strong sense of community within me. As proof, I am still a proud Newark resident to this very day.
I worked in law enforcement for over 25 years in Newark. My partner jokingly calls me “The Mayor” because I talk to everyone. Listening to their problems is just as important as celebrating their achievements. On the job, I was regularly asked questions about various community issues, and package theft always seemed to make it to the top of the list. Being a law enforcement officer, people presumed that I could provide them with helpful tips and tricks that would fend off “porch pirates.” At the time, I had no real solution for those who fell victim to package theft. The reality is that package theft is not a priority for law enforcement. When my wife became a victim of package theft, I was powerless to do anything about it. She had plenty to say about me and my profession, AND SHE WAS RIGHT. I tried to redeem myself by scurrying the Internet to find the state-of-the-art solution to secure our package deliveries. All my searching yielded no results. It’s no wonder that package theft has affected one in five e-shoppers. This led me on a journey to build the proverbial “better mousetrap.”
As I began to investigate package theft, I quickly realized how large of a problem it truly was! Package thieves have been stealing packages from our front doors, like a colony of worker ants to the tune of $8 billion nationwide per year. When an officer makes an arrest on the charge of theft, the alleged package thief is typically provided with a court date on which to appear and is released from police custody before the officer finishes with the required paperwork. Less than 1% of thieves are caught and only 2% of those are convicted. In other words, package thieves are emboldened by only a .02% chance of suffering any true consequences. Even then, there will not likely be any jail time. Unfortunately, most police departments do not have the resources to deal with the overwhelming problem of package theft in their communities. Although these package thefts affect millions of individuals and combined make up the biggest heist in U.S. history, there is yet to be a strong legal deterrent.
The Package Pro is a patented product designed to end package theft. The Package Pro is the only package receptacle system that elevates simple package theft to BURGLARY. This feature now gives the police a game changing advantage to win the war on package theft. In most states, criminals that are charged with burglary do hard time. The Package Pro works so well that theft will no longer be a concern, but if a thief persists, they face time behind bars.
